Altar cloth (Uchikishiki) Approx. 125 x 140 cm
Altar Cloth
A gorgeous cloth woven with gold brocade, also called an inner cushion, striking cloth, or inner cloth. It is said to originate from when Buddha's disciples laid out clothes and other items on Shakyamuni's high seat, and the uchi in uchishiki means to spread or to stretch.
Often used for events such as memorial services, Higan (equinox week), and Hatsubon (first Obon after a death), especially for special occasions.
