Royal Doulton character jug 'Jarge' (D6295), made in England. Copyright 1949, Doulton and Co Limited. Depicts a smiling West Country farmer in a wide-brim hat and red polka dot neckerchief.  Character jugs are the Royal Doulton specialty, three-dimensional caricature portraits of English archetypes, designed in this case by Harry Fenton and introduced as D6295 in 1950 (copyrighted 1949). Jarge is the archetypal West Country farmer, ruddy cheeks, wide-brim hat, red spotted kerchief. He was retired in 1960 which makes any surviving example a good decade's worth of collectible currency.
